The Journey
Explorations into Discipleship

What is 'The Journey' about?

Firstly it is Christianity based on the life, teachings, practice and actions of Jesus - rather than based on doctrines about Jesus.  Hence our wish is that people will encounter a living, contemporary spirit of Christ as they study the variety of ways that his early disciples thought of Jesus and then make their own doctrinal conclusions.

Secondly, it is Christianity based on discipleship: on following, on becoming involved in the Jesus life in practice rather than based on creed or belief.  So, our expectation is that people will discover through discipleship, through following, through

experimental actions, what it is they ought to believe rather than the other way round.

Thirdly, it is Christianity based on "ordinary" human life: on discovering things by experiencing them, in people, places or happenings rather than based on the life or worship of churches.  Therefore, our hope is that people will discover by experiences of meeting different Christians and Christian groupings, what forms of spirituality and fellowship would be meaningful and supportive for them and then choose to become part of them.

How we went about it

The Journey started in early October with the 'Getting Together' stage, where the participants got to know each other and were able to discuss ‘What's On Offer’ throughout the Journey Programme.  The next stage of the Journey, ‘Getting Started’, commenced at the end of October in Westwood House (next to Trinity church) when the participants shared a faith meal and discussed ‘Where We Are’ on Our Journeys.
