Communion

Can I attend communion services? Of course you can!  Communion services are essentially 'meals' when we gather round the Lord’s table, and no-one is turned away.  Some people are uncomfortable about receiving the bread and the wine, and that is fine.  They are welcome to stay in their seats or come forward and kneel for a blessing if they prefer.
Don’t I have to be confirmed? No.  That used to be the case.  But if it would make you feel more at ease to go through a preliminary ceremony, it would be better to choose baptism.  That’s a sign that you belong.
What about my children? We leave that to parents’ discretion.  It’s up to them to decide when is the right time.  Some children participate when they are very young.  Others choose to wait till they are confirmed.  In practice, most children know this is a special time: that there is a lot more to the bread and wine than just food.  They appreciate being included.
Would my children have to drink alcoholic wine? Some churches might say so, but our rules explicitly say alcohol should not be used.  This enables everyone to participate, including children, and does not compromise people who are trying to keep away from alcohol.
