Sunday 4th March, @ 12 noon - 4 pm, in private homes & Nelson Room
|
The annual Hospitality Sunday will take place on 4th March. There is a list at the back of the Church for those wishing to take part, either as a host or a guest. We are trying a different format this year. Hosts are asked to provide starter and main course in their homes and then everyone should meet in the Nelson Room at 3pm for fellowship, pudding, cheese, coffee etc, followed by a short service of Thanksgiving. The aim is to finish at 3.45/4pm approx. We would be grateful if any lunch guests could sign up to donate a pudding. ![]() |

We welcome everyone to The Book Club: any Circuit church-goer
or your friends; We are a friendly, informal group who like to chat about what we've read; This time we have chosen to read A Week in December by Sebastian Faulks Philip Berry expects to be able to offer copies to buy and Enid Munro will contact Cheshire Libraries for copies to borrow ![]() For a review of this book, see for example The Guardian. The following are abstracts from that review: It aspires to be a state-of-the-nation book, a satirical comedy of metropolitan literary life, a sweeping, Dickensian look at contemporary London, a serious examination of Islam and the reasons for radicalism among young Muslims, a thriller, a satire on the Notting Hill Cameroonians and a detailed look at the sharp financial practices that led to the [banking] collapse [and recession]. The scene is set with the wife of a Tory MP organising a dinner party for the benefit of her husband's career in somewhere evoking Notting Hill. Every guest is chosen to suggest that the MP is a Renaissance man. .... as though all wealthy Tories inevitably have grand gatherings with deep undercurrents of class, ambition and financial chicanery. As she goes through the guest list, we immediately know that they are all going to be linked in some way. |
