Pause for Prayer

>>Pause for Prayer meetings are on hold for the moment.<<

Normally, meetings are on alternate Saturdays, at 8.30am, in Westwood House, adjacent to Trinity Church.  They last for about 30 minutes.  Meeting dates are fortnightly.  See the Coming Events list for forthcoming dates.  If in doubt, check with our minister when the next Pause for Prayer will take place.

Although it's a prayer meeting, it's probably not as you imagine.  There's not a hint of spiritual superiority: just a sense that prayer is important and that lifting people up before God is well worthwhile.

It is structured to include prayers for individuals and groups within the church, then moving outwards to the local community, to other districts, and key areas of the world.

Prayers are often contributed by church members, whether attending or not.  On the table there are newspaper cuttings from the preceding week.  The 'Pause for Prayer' board from Trinity Church is there with names on it.  Someone looks through the church notices for the coming Sunday and points out things that are important.

Here are some examples of what we have prayed for :

  • Those who have heard the message of Peter's life in our performance of the musical, 'Rock'
  • Our brothers and sisters in Zimbabwe
  • Members of our church family who find conditions difficult in  severe winter weather and cannot leave their houses
Prayers are offered quietly, faithfully, sensitively.  Music lingers in the background and the time passes remarkably quickly.  It's a healthy place to be.  There's a sense of the presence of God which is well worth the early start.  But don't tell everyone.  They might all want to come.

The following prayer, written by Michaela Youngson, comes from The Methodist Prayer Handbook, .

Sense the warm passion of The Spirit's flame.

Speak with the fervour of The Spirit's voice.

Move with the music of The Spirit's dance.

May God's Spirit bless us, inspire us and confirm us in our calling as disciples of Christ.

Amen
